Small Group Blog: AAW Highlight
This coming weekend will be our 4th annual All Access Weekend. It is always one of my favorite weekends of the year because I can see the effects this one weekend can have throughout the rest of the semester on our students and leaders. Here are just a few things I love that AAW has given to our team at the Holly Springs Campus:
- Growth – The sweet thing about AAW is that every year you can look back and praise how the ministry has grown from year to year. When we started, Holly Springs had only 3 middle school houses… and now this year we have grown to 8. That means more students coming and hearing the Gospel and more leaders committed to showing up and loving on them.
- Community – When we first started AAW, Holly Springs was only in its second year as a campus. We were a small group of students and leaders still trying to find our place and our identity. Four years later I love sitting back and watching my students/leaders and the presence they have as a campus. One simple thing we have done to continue building community is that every year we have a Holly Springs 80s night (picture above).
- Leaders – I will unashamedly say I have the best small group leaders at the church. And during AAW I get to watch them in action. I always tell them that camps and retreats are sometimes like the equivalent of showing up in small groups for months because of the relationship building time you get to have with students. I love looking back at my pictures and see a leader who has shown up all 3 years of AAW with students, essentially watching them grow up, because I know they have truly won the right to be heard by these students.
- Friends -- AAW has been and hopefully will continue to be an onramp for students to invite their friends to church. Over the past few years I have seen many students who have shown up for the weekend and then started to plug in to small groups because of what they heard that weekend and the relationships that have been built with the leaders.
Please be in prayer with me as we head into this weekend. Pray that God will speak truth through our speaker and that students will leave this weekend secure in who they are in Christ and ready to live out their faith in their schools. Pray over our small group leaders that they get extended rest this week and for boldness over the weekend.
